News: Pat a Mat na venkově continues

The new Patmat studio

Hello everybody, this will be just a brief post, as time permits. Fellow ajetologists have alerted me to this video, today's airing of the News show from Czech Television's Déčko channel for children. It confirms something only mentioned in brief so far, that the Countryside series is continuing.

Continue to ČT's video.

This is what we have also learned from the report:

  • Patmat have a new studio with much more space than before.
  • The series will have around 50 episodes. It was not clarified whether this will be 50 new episodes or 50 episodes altogether.
  • One of the new episodes will be Klimatizace (Air Conditioning). Marek Beneš explained that the episode starts with Mat showing Pat a ball with which he intends to play football but first, he has to take care of the heat.

That's it for now. Hopefully, more news will come along.

  1. Get ready for 50 more boring Pat & Mat episodes where they never go beyond their backyard, despite there being a whole countryside environment that Pat & Mat could explore or interact with. And also another "movie" thats just all the episodes combined into one.

    1. That's a pretty pessimistic outlook, but I can't say I can counter it much. 50 episodes (even if it is really 40) is way, way too much and will be another victory of quantity over quality. This is how things get run into the ground, I'm afraid.

  2. This was once confirmed by the official Pat and Mat facebook page. They've released a boardgame but it was quite questionable for me, since it was in the style of P&M: Na venkově. Thankfully, the creators replied saying that the series is continuing. This was 5 months before the release of this video. So they had in plan for a longer time than we might think.

    1. I'm aware of that. I tried to find out more then, in June, but got the cold shoulder.

  3. Well, I'd like to say that it's going to be great, but I'm not sure with my "statement". I cannot help, but I personally think that nothing can top Skoumal's Na venkově series music. Even if all of the 40 or 50 episodes were as great as the original Na venkově ones, the issue of music would still be the main thing that certainly will deepen the gap between these two Na venkově series. I personally think that PatMat film is taking way too big challenges which could result in getting a big amount of money (which I understand, the studio simply has to live somehow. How could it do that if it didn't have any money), but are simply unfulfillable. Making 50 episodes is a challenge for scriptwriter, cameraman, animator and even for the music composer who may be completely lacking in inspiration or an idea, needless to say that the whole thing has to be done in a small number of years.

  4. It looks like Benes and co. found another way to make money: NFTs. I won't bother you with my opinion on those, but if you're a die-hard fan, this is your opportunity to "own" a small part of the Cactus episode. The pictures are sold for 0.05 ETH (Ethereum, a cryptocurrency and another thing I don't believe in), which at the time of writing is around $70/€60. According to several articles/interviews, one episode consists of around 11,500 photos, so if you have $805,000/€690,000 lying around, episode 89 and some outtakes are all yours. Well, not really, but you'd be the first to see it in 3D. (You can see how it works in the 2013 behind the scenes video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45Gmprvk60Q at 1:13.) I remember reading somewhere that one episode costs about €50,000 to produce.
Here's a link to the NFT page on the official website, which is only visible on the English version: https://en.patmat.cz/?sid=25/. Don’t forget that you can watch the episodes online for free.

  5. I my opinion, I rather have a real Pat & Mat movie that is 30 minutes of longer with one storyline, instead of a season that results in a movie with episodes combined. But I don't know if the studio can afford to produce that. Na venkove is one of my favorite seasons, so I still see it as good news, but 50 episodes is a lot of episodes
